THE ambulance service which covers Andover has reassured that it has additional fuel provisions available so it can continue to respond to emergencies.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) has told the Advertiser that it is “continuing to monitor the situation” regarding the current fuel shortage crisis.

A spokesperson added: “We have robust operational plans in place in the event of any disruption to fuel supply and have additional fuel provisions available to us should they be required at any point.

“We continue to monitor the situation and work closely with our partners so we can adapt and mitigate any risks should they arise.”

The ongoing fuel shortage crisis has seen lengthy queues outside petrol stations as soaring demand has seen forecourts run out of fuel, including various garages in Andover and North Hampshire.

The arm is now on standby to help ease fuel supply problems after a fourth day of long queues and pump closures.

Up to 150 military tanker drivers will prepare to deliver to forecourts which have run out of fuel.

Panic buying began last week as motorists feared a driver shortage would hit fuel supply.

The UK is estimated to be short of more than 100,000 lorry drivers, which has caused problems for a range of industries in recent months including food suppliers and supermarkets.
