AN ANDOVER councillor has hit out at vandals after benches previously replaced have again been targeted.

Cllr Iris Andersen (TBVC, Andover St Mary’s) told the Advertiser that the actions at the underpass between Vigo Park and Vigo roundabout, amount to “most unacceptable anti-social behaviour”, adding that it makes her “feel sad” to see the nice things in the town looking as they do.

“This really does make me feel sad that damage like this can be done,” she said.

“It is so upsetting. We have a beautiful park and I just wonder why they have to vandalise the benches under the underpass. Not only have they smashed the slats, they have carved into the wood with a penknife so they will have to be replaced.

“This isn't the first time this has happened, they have been replaced quite a few times now.”

Cllr Andersen continued: “We are so lucky to be able to enjoy a park so near to the town, and actually this area is a very pleasant area. I sit down there myself coming through from town.

“The underpass has been painted with wildlife and I know the children, on their way to nursery or school, enjoy looking at the different animals."

The Advertiser has contacted Hampshire Constabulary for comment.
