This week, the childhood dream of a Wiltshire radio presenter came true, as he landed the interview he has always wanted.

Monday evening (November 29) marked a milestone for local radio presenter Chris Jackson who joined Castledown FM, based at The Wellington Academy in Tidworth, this year with his “Alternative 80s” radio show.

Chris got to interview, live on air, the music guru and presenter Gary Crowley who has himself interviewed the likes of Wham, Paul McCartney, The Style Council and Nick Heyward, to name but a few artists.

His television shows The Beat and Poparound proved popular, and Gary was the UK’s youngest radio DJ aged just 19 when he joined Capital radio in 1980.

Chris said: “I always wanted my own radio show where I could play some diverse music that you don’t hear all the time, and I have waited years to join the right station with the right attitude and passion.

“Since joining the team at Castledown FM this year, which recently celebrated 15 years of service to the community, I felt I wanted to mark the occasion with a very special guest that has a wealth of 80s music knowledge especially.”

He continued: “I grew up listening and watching Gary interview stars and celebrities, so to now have interviewed him has been a dream come true.

“We had great fun, and some interesting questions were asked by listeners who all really enjoyed the show.”

Chris now hopes to further his radio work, as during the pandemic more and more people are tuning in as they work from home.

You can listen to his show again and tune in every Monday at 9pm via www.castledownfm.com.

Gary’s Lost 80s compilation is also out now online and at all good record shops.
