A MAN has been seriously injured after he was hit by a car on the A303 yesterday evening (Monday).

Emergency services were called shortly after 5.30pm to reports of a serious collision on stretch of road close to Anover.

Following the crash involving an Audi Q2 and a Nissan Micra, an occupant of the Audi, who had left the vehicle, was involved in a collision with a Volkswagon Golf.

The man, a 45-year-old from Plymouth, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he remains.

Three further people, an adult and two children, were also taken to Southampton hospital following treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Following the crash, a 32-year-old man from Eastleigh has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He has been released under investigation.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: “We were called at 17:58 to the A303 to a male who’d been hit by a car.

“We sent to the scene two ambulance crews, critical care car from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) who were assessing and treating four patients.

“One male patient sustained serious injuries, was treated at the scene by our crews and was taken by land ambulance to University Hospital Southampton, and a further three patients, an adult and two children, were also taken to UHS following treatment at the scene for minor injuries.”
