THE borough council has pledged to take 'swift action' after concerns were raised regarding litter pollution in the River Anton.

As previously reported, the water running under Anton Mill Road behind Asda in Andover has been blocked by plastic bottles and other dicarded waste, reportedly for at least six months.

One resident said that the lack of action from Test Valley Borough Council was "disgraceful" and called on the authority to clear the area.

Reacting to the plea, a council spokesperson told the Advertiser: “Unfortunately, litter can accumulate at locations like this, as it flows from the town centre.

"While we have no record of this specific complaint, sections of the river are regularly monitored and cleared.

"Whilst we will be taking swift action to clear the area our main message to the small minority that do it, is not to drop litter in the first place, and use one the many public bins provided in the town centre.”
