ONE Andover school pupil has been taken to hospital following a crash involving a school minibus, it has been confirmed.

The student at Rookwood School, an independent school on Weyhill Road, Andover, sustained “minor injuries” when the minibus was involved in a collision with a car on London Road in Salisbury on Tuesday afternoon (February 1).

Police confirmed that the road was closed following the incident, due to an oil spillage.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 2.50pm, we were called to a two vehicle collision near to Four Acres Filling Station, London Road, Salisbury.

“It involved a minibus and a car and, due to a large oil spillage, the road was blocked.

“Two people were taken to hospital as a precaution, but nobody is believed to have been seriously injured.

“The road was clear by around 5pm.”

Now, headteacher at Rookwood School, Anthony Kirk-Burgess has told the Advertiser that the minibus, driven by Head of PE, Mr Leigh Mills, was carrying eight pupils when it was involved in a collision.

He said that a vehicle pulled out from the opposite side of the road and drove into the minibus, adding that all pupils were assessed by paramedics at the scene and one pupil, accompanied by a member of staff, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He continued: “I am most grateful to Mr Mills for taking evasive action which minimised the impact and for his calm and professional approach in reassuring the pupils afterwards.

“I am also grateful to the emergency services who attended the scene and to the members of the public for their help and support at the time.”
