A CAR crashed near a pub near Andover while trying to escape from police in the early hours today (Saturday, February 5).

The crash occurred at 2.21am on the A3057, near the Mayfly pub in Stockbridge.

According to police, the suspects got out of the vehicle after the crash and fled the scene, before making their way into the nearby woodland.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said the car, a grey Mini Cooper, is believed to have been stolen.

The spokesperson said: “Just after 2am on Friday 4 February, officers attempted to stop a grey Mini Cooper as the driver headed towards Andover.

“The driver failed to stop and travelled on the A303 before joining the A3057 and headed towards Leckford.

“The vehicle then crashed at 2.21am on the A3057, near the Mayfly pub.

“Following the collision, the suspects got out of the vehicle and fled the scene, before making their way into the nearby woodland.

“An extensive search was carried out, but there was no trace of the people who were inside the vehicle.

“The car, believed to have been stolen, has been recovered.”

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and information that could help with the investigation.

If you saw any suspicious behaviour at that time, or if you witnessed the crash, or if you saw the suspects leave the vehicle, you are requested to contact the police.
