THE Advertiser regularly reports on Andover residents dealt with at the local courts, but these people were sentenced elsewhere last month.

These three women were dealt with at other courts around the country in February for driving offences.

Under UK law, matters come before the courts where the allegation is said to have taken place, rather than where an accused person lives.

For example a person is caught speeding in a given area, it will be dealt with at the nearest possible court.

MAGISTRATES have allowed an Andover woman to keep her licence after she was caught speeding in Twickenham.

Lucinda Macnamara, 53 and of Haven Hill, was caught driving a Volkswagen on the A316 Great Chertsey Road at 54mph – the limit was 40mph.

She pleaded guilty to the offence which took place on June 14, last year, during a hearing at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.

In mitigation, the court was told that Macnamara needs her car to support her elderly mother who needs assistance in living independently. She was allowed to keep her licence.

Magistrates endorsed her driving licence with three points and fined her £290. She must also pay £90 court costs and a £58 victim surcharge.

AN ANDOVER woman has been fined hundreds of pounds for failing to give information of the driver of a car stopped by police.

Jade Rawsthorne, 33 and of Upnor Close, Perham Down, failed to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of a Citroen C3 Flair who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence in Pontypool, Wales, on September 24, last year.

The case was heard at Llanelli Magistrates' Court and Rawsthorne had her driving licence endorsed with six points.

She was also fined £660 and must pay £90 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.

A further charge of speeding was withdrawn.

A BMW driver who was caught speeding in Lancashire has been given points on her licence.

Shazia Saber, 44 and of Andover Down, was found to have exceeded a temporary maximum speed restriction of 50mph on the M6 southbound at Garstang. The offence took place on July 7, last year.

The speed that Saber was travelling at was not given in the court records.

Magistrates fined her £293 and endorsed her licence with five points. She must also pay £90 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
