A WIDE range of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events are set to be held in Andover during the extended June bank holiday weekend after the town council approved its itinerary.
Members discussed a range of recommendations from their events panel, at a full council meeting on Wednesday (March 23).
Between May 28 and June 28, ERII lettering is to be installed on the front of the Guildhall to mark the occasion, similar to the sign erected for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
A quote for repair of the sign and installation estimates the total cost to be approximately £2,697.27.
The decision was approved by nine votes for and two against, with Cllr David Coole saying: “I would like to see the money spent on something more permanent, such as benches or trees”.

A celebratory church service will be held at St Mary’s Church in Andover on Thursday, June 2, with the town mayor Cllr Barbara Long stressing the council’s belief that this be done in Andover as well as in Romsey, which is being organised by Test Valley Borough Council.
The service will be followed by the lighting of a beacon, in line with beacons across the country at 9.45pm that evening, and was approved by nine votes with two absentions.
On Sunday, June 5, a picnic will be held in Vigo recreation park, with musical acts offering a journey through seven decades. Children will be invited to enter a fancy dress competition on the day.
Finally, shops and businesses in Andover High Street will be encouraged to ‘dress’ their shop windows with a Jubilee theme.
