ANDOVER councillors have raised concerns about a lack of ‘future proofing’, as details are revealed for 30 new homes in Picket Piece.

As previously reported, outline planning permission was granted by Test Valley Borough Council back in 2016, for a proposal by Dunsmere Developments Ltd of 30 new homes on land north of Walworth Road.

But there have been numerous delays to progress since then, including changes to planning regulations and conditions to be met.

Now, Fowler Architecture and Planning has put forward a ‘reserved matters’ application for consideration by the authority. This includes details not previously submitted at the time of outline permission.

It provides more than 30 documents outlining the “layout, scale and appearance of the buildings”and illustratively shows the overall proposed site, as well as the individual home types.

However, despite an ‘environmental statement’ being included in the supporting documents - which includes nitrogen nutrient and noise pollution assessments - members of Andover Town Council have put forward concerns that the plans do not do enough to tackle the climate emergency.

Considering the application at a meeting of the planning committee on Monday (March 28), members decided to submit comments in response to the consultation, asking for clarity over how tools such as solar panels and other mitigating features will be incorporated in the development.

Cllr Luigi Gregori said: “One of the things it tells us is that there is a health centre in Picket Piece, there’s not. No one has picked it up.

“There is also no EV chargers, there is nothing about being green or the environment.”

Cllr Nigel Long added: “The situation on Walworth Road is going to be interesting, with 30 more cars!”

The reserved matters application will now be considered by Test Valley Borough Council. To view the details, visit view-applications.testvalley.gov.uk/online-applications and type in reference: 22/00688/RESN.
