WHITCHURCH Conservation Group has been awarded nearly £10,000 to run creative events as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jibilee ceolebrations.
The Arts Council’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF) has awarded the group £9,984.
The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will ensure that thousands of people from communities all across England will have the opportunity to take part in exciting creative events – all in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.
From puppetry and story creation, through to making crowns, carnival and art trails, there will be a huge range of exciting activities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in.
The funding will be used for a series of free creative community events in Whitchurch.
These include the Whitchurch Art Fair from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday June 5 at the Gill Nethercott Centre, and Music in the Meadow on Sunday, June 5 at the Millennium Meadow.
This free open-air concert from 11am to 4pm will feature a ‘Proms in the Park’ style performance on stage from the Nova Foresta Classical Players orchestra who will play a selection of popular music culminating in a rousing climax with the playing of traditional favourites including Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia.
Whitchurch Folk Club and the Whitchurch Singing for Fun Choir will also be performing and there will be children’s activities throughout the day from Basingstoke- based Anvil Arts The Musication Station and Proteus Theatre / Scratchbuilt Shed of Stories.
Made possible thanks to National Lottery players and administered by UK Community Foundations on behalf of the Arts Council, the Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will support a huge range of projects throughout England. Some 44 community foundations have been awarded grants across the country.

We are looking forward to inviting as many local artists as possible to participate in our inaugural Whitchurch Art Fair”
