A FORMER foster carer from Stockbridge has been awarded an OBE as part of the Queen's Birthday Honour's List 2022, released ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.

Christine Mary Blackmore, 75, has been listed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to fostering with Hampshire County Council.

She has fostered hundreds of children of all ages, for anything from a day up to two years.

Commenting on the recognition, Councillor Roz Chadd, the County Council’s executive lead member for children’s services said: “Congratulations to Christine on this prestigious and well-deserved achievement, which recognises a long career providing much needed care to some of our county’s most vulnerable children.

"Foster carers play a vital role in the lives of the children they care for, providing the stability of a loving family environment at the time it’s needed most. I’d urge anyone who is interested in making a difference, like Christine, to get in touch with us and find out more about the fostering journey.”]
