THE MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Andover and Romsey as the recent heatwave looks set to come to an abrupt end.

Stormy conditions including thunder and lighting may cause some disruption to residents in the coming hours, with the warning set to remain in place until the early evening.

Meteorologists have said there is a small chance of a short term loss of power for some homes. Damage to buildings and structures is also possible, although Hampshire is on the edge of the affected area.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Storms are expected to move north-eastwards across the southwest and into southern England Saturday afternoon. These may bring frequent lightning to sites for a short period of time before they clear to the northeast. A brief period of heavy rain is also likely but given the speed of movement lightning is thought more likely to be a hazard. The most frequent lightning is likely to be in parts of Cornwall and Devon."
