My garden waste was due to be collected on June 15. It wasn’t collected.

I left the bin out and on Friday June 17, I checked the Basingstoke Gov website where there was a notice saying for those whose garden waste collection was due on 16 and 17 please leave the bins out (no mention of missed June 15 collections).

I left the in out over the weekend. On Monday 20 I checked the website again and now there was only mention of missed collection for June 17. I attempted to report a missed collection but, of course, the system doesn’t work for anything missed more than 24 hours ago.

I emailed the council (waste@basingstoke.gov.uk) – no response.

I emailed them again on June 24 – no response, now I’ve also raised complaint via website (automatic acknowledgement received).

Today the website advises the crews will be out over the weekend to try and catch up on all missed collections – no longer a mention of any particular missed collection dates.

Though I appreciate that the service provider is short of HGV drivers I believe the council should announce that the service cannot be maintained fortnightly and give us a realistic collection schedule (e.g. monthly).

Green bins are also being collected one to two days later than schedule. Nearby councils, Reading.gov and Wokingham.gov, do not have ANY notices of disrupted collections which makes me wonder if it isn’t proof that we need a change of service provider.

I was a 60s baby, born in Basingstoke, and it only seems to be in the last four to five years that we’ve had missed collections.
