MORE than 20 fire engines have been scrambled to a major blaze in Tidworth on Tuesday afternoon (July 26).

Posting to Twitter, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We’re dealing with a significant fire in Tidworth, with over 20 fire appliances on scene.

"Our crews along with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are working hard to bring the incident under control - please avoid the area."

A spokesperson for the service added: "We received a call at 9.45am this morning about a fire at a commercial premises on Jagdalik Road, Tidworth. Currently in attendance are crews from DWFRS (Salisbury (x2), Pewsey, Marlborough, Chippenham, Stratton, Devizes and Warminster), HIOWFRS (Andover (x2), Basingstoke, Whitchurch, Winchester, Fordingbridge, Tadley, Eastleigh, Basingstoke and Hardley) and O&RBFRS (Newbury x2).

"Water carriers from both Eastleigh and Royal Wootton Bassett are also in attendance with Aerial Ladder Platforms from Basingstoke and Swindon.

"The incident involves a fire within a stable block, used as offices and storage. Firefighters found the roof of the property to be well alight on arrival – good progress has been made by breathing apparatus wearers using main jets, hose reel jets and the ALPs. The fire is now surrounded."

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service spokesperson added: "We have a number of crews supporting our partners Dorset and Wiltshire FRS with a large fire just across the border in Tidworth, Wiltshire. 

"HIWFRS firefighters from Andover, Basingstoke, Whitchurch, Winchester, Fordingbridge, Tadley and Hardley are on the scene having been first called at 09.45 this morning."
