THE fire service has announced that crews will remain on the scene for 'a number of hours' more, following an intial call to a major blaze in Tidworth on Tuesday morning (July 26).

More than 20 crews scrambled to the scene on Jagdalik Road at 9.45am, where the roof of a stable block, used as offices and storage, was 'well alight'.

In attendance were crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Residents were urged to avoid the area.

Posting to Twitter seven hours after the first call, at 4.45pm, a fire service spokesperson said: "The incident in Tidworth is now under control and has been scaled down - we will be on scene for a number of hours yet monitoring and cooling hotspots.

"Apologies for any inconvenience caused."
