A FIRE that broke out in a building in Tidworth started "accidentally", the fire service has said.

Scores of firefighters were called to tackle the blaze on Jagdalik Road, which was reported to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) on Tuesday, July 26 at 9.45am.

The incident involved a fire within a stable block, used as offices and storage. Firefighters found the roof “well alight” when they arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson for DWFRS said: "We’re satisfied the fire started accidentally but the exact cause remains under investigation."

At the height of the incident more than 20 fire appliances were at the scene including crews from neighbouring Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

The first set of crews to be sent to the scene were from Salisbury (two), Andover (two), Basingstoke (two), Whitchurch, Pewsey, Marlborough, Winchester, Fordingbridge, Chippenham, Tadley, Eastleigh, Stratton, Devizes, Warminster, Hardley and Newbury (two), plus water carriers from Eastleigh and Royal Wootton Bassett, aerial ladder platforms from Basingstoke and Swindon, and a high volume pump from Christchurch.

Later on there were also incident command vehicles from Beaulieu and Devizes on scene.

By around 2.20pm on Tuesday the fire was under control and the response was scaled down over the afternoon and overnight.

Relief crews kept an eye on the scene overnight and into the following morning. This included crews from Westlea, Mere, Wilton, Shaftesbury, Stratton, Amesbury, Calne, Trowbridge and Salisbury.

The last crew left the scene at 10.10 the following morning, Wednesday, July 27.
