A GLIDING club is hosting an open day to give members of the public the chance to try out the exciting adventure sport.

Shalbourne Gliding Club, located four miles south of Hungerford, near to SN8 3RJ, will be opening its gates to the public.

The open day will take place on Sunday, August 21 between 10am and 6pm.

Members of the club will be delighted to share their passion for gliding with attendees, showing them around the aircraft and answering any questions that attendees might have.

Weather permitting, trail flights will also be available on a first come first served basis, allowing attendees to try their hands at the sport.

These flights will cost £40, with the price covering a single launch and up to 15 minutes of flying time.

Shalbourne Gliding Club has roughly 100 members, raging in age from 14 to 80.

The club owns the gliders that the members use and share, allowing costs to be kept to a minimum.

While it is a little-known activity, gliding is becoming more popular, with more than 80 clubs in the UK.

Anyone regardless of race, gender, or disability can fly in a glider, with some even seeing it as the first step to becoming a professional pilot.

The Shalbourne Gliding Club airfield offers little shelter, so attendees are asked to remember to bring sun protection, as well as plenty to eat and drink.
