Dear Editor,

It would appear that the council has little grasp of what is happening with the collection of bins. On Tuesday, August 2, the Old Basing round of green bins and bottle collections was missed. Not a problem. We all thought as this has happened before and they will be back the next day.

They did not come back the next day and at the time of writing they still have not been.

We looked at the council’s website assuming they would tell us what was going on but we waited in vain.

Finally the following Monday a notification did appear, but it was about the brown garden waste bins. So nothing to do with us.

Then on Wednesday another notification as the council had discovered that some bins had been missed the previous day.

It seems odd that they know that bins have not been collected the previous day when they appear not to know about a collection that did not take place the previous week.

Whatever problems the council is facing I am sure residents would much prefer an honest explanation of the problem with a realistic forecast of when the bins will be collected. We have all had to leave our bins in the road for fear of missing a collection but this means we have to take everything out there which is hardly convenient and for some very inconvenient indeed.

With this lax knowledge of what is actually happening with the collection of bins we cannot have much confidence in the way this contract is being enforced.
