DESPITE the huge disruption of numerous national lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, Harrow Way students and teachers are celebrating the class of 2022 this year.

Many staff joined the students as they collected their GCSE results to share the very special moment.

Emotions were high among many students but most had smiles on their faces as they opened their results on Thursday, August 25.

A great set of results came in for Maisy Shearer and Jade Andrade.

Maisy is taking a slightly different route from other students and is off to do a hairdressing course at college.

She said: “I have always been interested in hairdressing from a young age so it seems like the perfect thing to go into”

A delighted Headteacher Michael Serridge added: “These students have not had an easy time of their secondary education, with national lockdowns during Years 9 and 10 resulting in lessons being delivered remotely. They are also the first cohort in the last three years to sit the summer season of exams. That did not hold them back though and I could not be prouder of our students who have shown both resilience and a commitment to their own achievement, the outcome of which is today’s fantastic results. I must also applaud our exceptional teaching and support team who, while remaining focused on academic excellence, have also encouraged and supported students throughout the last three years.”

An impressive 80 per cent achieved grade 9 to 4 in English and 76 per cent in Maths.

Also picking up some great results were Ben and George. They were both relieved.

George told the Advertiser that he hopes to become a lawyer one day.

He said: “I am so happy with my results I would love to get into law one day.”

Member of the youth parliament Dmitrijs Meiksans got an excellent set of results.

He said: “I am absolutely ecstatic. The teachers have done an amazing job to ensure we all got the grades we wanted. It is just amazing and everyone adapted so well to Covid.

“It was very hard to create the classroom experience online but we all adapted brilliantly.”
