TWO horses were injured after a popular riding school in Andover was broken into.

The owner of Andover Riding School, in Weyhill Road, said she has been left feeling "anxious and on edge" after it was broken into overnight on Wednesday, September 7.

Staff became aware of the incident the following day when they went to check on the horses and discovered the stable had been broken into, resulting in two horses becoming injured when they panicked and escaped into the car park.

Sue Black who owns the riding school spoke to the Advertiser after the scary ordeal.

She said the padlocks on the gates were cut leaving the horses running loose in the carpark.

She said: “When we came down on Thursday to check on the horses we realised that we have been broken into and the office, tack room and feed room were broken into with drawers all pulled out.

“They took our little red cash box which luckily only had £10 inside it as people mainly use cards these days and luckily nothing else had been taken.”

Sue said the horses had been left "shaken and spooked" by the break in.

She added: "The thing I hate the most is that the horses were spooked as they ran up to the yard and had gone through it and onto the carpark, which stayed locked thank goodness. They were left bumping into tables and chairs and knocking them flying.”

Two horses were injured during the ordeal, with one, named Danny, hurt when he bumped into a wooden table and bench which he tried to jump over in panic.

He is receiving medical treatment and is hoped to make a full recovery.

Another horse, Indie, suffered a swollen eye after bumping into something.

Following treatment she has recovered.

The school remains open and is accepting card payments because the cash box has not been found.

Sue added: “We have been left feeling anxious and it has left us shaken up. I would like to thank everyone, we have received a lot of support. When something like this happens, kindness does really make it easier.”

The riding school informed Hampshire police about the incident.
