PLANS for four new homes have been given the go ahead - four years after the application was lodged. 

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's development control committee granted permission for the dwellings on land in Cressington, Stoke Lane, Hurstbourne Priors, on Wednesday, September 28.

Proposed by Simon Southgate and Simon Eadie, the application was first registered in March 2018 but had to be deferred so they could submit further information on the local need for houses and the timescale for the homes to be built.

The application has had overwhelming support from neighbouring residents.

Neighbour Simon Mattison said that he and his family “support the planning application”, noting that “the plans look really well thought-out and considerate for all".

He continued: “We hope the planning application can be expedited and the work can start so the overall Cressington site can settle.

“We wish them a speedy and successful build.”

Another resident Dianne Braund agreed with the points raised by Mr Mattison, adding that the driveways need appropriate drainage/soak aways to “avoid problems given the gradient of the Cressington plots".

However, she supported the proposal, and in a letter to the council said: “It will be very welcome to have the land opposite developed instead of the wasteland and builder’s dumping ground it currently is.

“It would be good to get these issues addressed and incorporated in a successful planning application so that we can look forward to ‘Cressington’ finally being complete.”
