A TEST Valley pub has been recognised thanks to reviews from diners who have praised their food, drink and overall atmosphere over the last 12 months.

The Crown Inn, in Upton, has recognised by Tripadvisor as a 2022 Travellers' Choice award winner for restaurants, making it one of the top 10 per cent of restaurants throughout the world.

Owner and chef Dave Watts, who trained with Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones at the prestigious Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, said: “We're really excited to have been awarded the Travellers' Choice Award again, it means a great deal that our guests consistently feel they have had a top-notch experience. One of our aims is to ensure they get a warm welcome and leave wanting to come back again and again.”

The pub puts down its success to staying ahead of the game, particularly during these difficult times, by serving high-quality food with an unusual twist, using local and artisanal produce, including that grown in the pub garden, not being afraid to be different and providing the best possible experience.

Menus change very regularly, making the most of seasonal produce, with ingredients sourced wherever possible from local artisan suppliers, as well as plants and herbs grown in the pub's own garden.

Dave recently acquired The Charcuterie at Parsonage Farm, which is dedicated to animal welfare, where he creates delicious cured meats, used in the pub's menus and sold online.

Chief commercial officer at Tripadvisor Kanika Soni said: "The Travellers' Choice Awards recognise the best in tourism and hospitality, according to those who matter most: your guests.

“Ranking among the Travellers' Choice winners is always tough — but never more so than this year as we emerge from the pandemic. Whether it's using new technology, implementing safety measures, or hiring outstanding staff, I'm impressed by the steps you've taken to meet travellers’ new demands. You've adapted brilliantly in the face of adversity."

The Crown also runs regular events like its Oktoberfest, seasonal celebrations and festive events and is deeply connected to its local community.
