ANDOVER residents have been urged to undertake a survey on proposals to make it easier for people to walk and cycle to and from Andover rail station.

Hampshire County Council wants to know what residents, commuters and businesses think of the proposals.

The proposals within the survey include improvements to pedestrian areas and crossing facilities around the station forecourt, as well as changes to some of the nearby roads to make it easier to walk and cycle between the station and the town centre.

For the station forecourt, ideas include extending the forecourt which will narrow the road and enable enhanced road crossing facilities to be installed which will improve accessibility for all station users and relocate part of the taxi rank to provide more space for pedestrians.

For the Cross Lane area, proposals include the reallocation of road space around the Cross Lane/The Avenue/Station Approach junctions for pedestrians and cyclists, making the area a more pleasant space for people to travel through.

Also proposed is an improved cycle link from the station to Bishop’s Way to enhance the safety and accessibility of the route from the town centre and encourage more travel to the station on foot or by bike.

County council’s executive member of highways operations, Cllr Nick Adams-King said: “Andover Rail Station provides vital links to the town centre for business and leisure. We are very keen to get the views of the community on the proposed designs from those who regularly use the area so I would encourage people to take part in the survey.”
