A NURSE from Salisbury was one of 10 runners who took part in the London Marathon to collectively raise more than £30,000 for Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices.

On October 2 marked the 42nd TCS London Marathon where runners took on the streets of London.

One runner, Natalie King, who worked as a nurse for the Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices, said: “I have sadly seen too many families lose their children and have been there to support them during their darkest of days. As a mum now I can’t imagine the loss they must feel, but the staff are always there to support and care for them. The care team are incredible and are like a second family to me.

“My dad has always wanted to run a Marathon with one of his children and first completed the London Marathon 39 years ago. When he obtained a ballot entry this time around I knew straight away I wanted to do it with him, raising money for the charity I care so much about!“

Natalie described the marathon as one of the best days of her life, where alone she raised an impressive £2,950 for Naomi House & Jacksplace, who have one of their many hospices in Andover.

In January she initially couldn't run more than a mile, but after dedicating herself to training, crossing the finishing line at the end of the marathon made all Natalie's hard work worth it.

The dedication from the runners and their fundraising efforts helps support the charity and all the work they do for life-limited and life-threatened children, young adults and their families.

Charlotte Patrick, senior events fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace said: “Along with the team at Running With Us, it has been a pleasure supporting our team of runners at this year’s TCS London Marathon. Their fundraising efforts have been amazing. Each and every runner has raised above and beyond their target, they’re fantastic.”

The ballot is now open for the chance to run the London Marathon next year in support of the charity naomihouse.org.uk/londonmarathon23
