A TEENAGER who lost her baby in a horror car crash has thanked those who have helped raise more than £1,000 for his funeral.

Madi Sawyer, of Ludgershall, was involved in a tragic incident on Monday, October 3, when the car she was a passenger in flipped and crashed.

She said: "It felt like a rollercoaster. The car flipped and I was just shaken."

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Alderbury and the pregnant 15-year-old was taken to Southampton Hospital where parents Dave Sawyer and Kirsty Sleeman were presented with the tough decision to either save their daughter Madi or their grandson Mateo.

Following six and a half hours in the operating theatre, Madi was saved but she is now mourning the loss of her child. She was 27 weeks and two days pregnant at the time of the crash.

After Madi woke up in the intensive care unit, she said her first thoughts were for her baby. Then doctors broke the devastating news.

She said: "The first couple of days were really hard. I didn't want to see him, I didn't want to make it seem real."

Madi said she received excellent care at the hospital during her six-day stay and that there was always someone by her side to support her.

She added: "[The nurses] helped me get through it, and the ICU nurses were great. They helped me feel comfortable and to settle down."

Dave set up a GoFundMe page to support Madi and to give Mateo "the best send-off". So far, £1,025 has been raised for his daughter (October 18).

He said: "This has come from people who are caring and sympathetic for Madi."

Madi hopes to spend some of the donated money on a personalised coffin and pay toward Mateo's funeral costs.

She said: "I just want to say thank you so much. I have messaged people saying thank you every time my Dad told me that a person donated.

"I have had so many people message me, even people I thought didn't like me, and told me that they are here for me."

Kirsty explained how the money will be there to help Madi get "the right help at the right time".

She added: "The last two weeks have been a blur and she's going through a lot emotionally."

Madi said she's starting to recover and hopes to go back to school in November. She also hopes to return to her hair and beauty course at college soon.
