A PRESCHOOL playgroup in Overton has been awarded an 'outstanding' rating following an Ofsted inspection.

Overton Preschool Playgroup was assessed by the education watchdog on September 27 and received outstanding grades in all areas.

This includes the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

The Ofsted report said that young children who are new to the school make outstanding progress, handling outside play equipment with great skill and developing their reading and socialising skills well.

The report also mentioned that all of the preschool staff have high aspirations for what the children under their care achieve, making regular and accurate observations of the children to identify gaps or delays which they can then assess.

The report also found that children with speech or language difficulties were well supported, as were children for whom English is a second language.

The inspector went on to call the manager and room leaders “inspirational practitioners”, with expert knowledge of age-related development.

Manager Amanda Igo said: “This is our ‘awe and wonder’ moment, being able to maintain that outstanding achievement from last time.

“And it’s under the new inspection framework as well, so we’re highly delighted.

“We want to thank our children, to start with, my staff and all our parents really.

“It’s really, truly deserved, and it was so lovely to read that our children are competent little learners.

“I think that was something that we’re very passionate about.

“I’ve been the manager for 22 years, so this is a wonderful moment.”

This is not the first time that the preschool has received an outstanding rating in all areas, with the playgroup receiving the same rating when it was assessed in 2019.

Originally founded more than 40 years ago, Overton Preschool Playgroup offers care for children aged two and over.
