A TEST Valley borough councillor who represents Andover Romans ward resigned last week.
Conservative member Cllr Nick Matthews, who was also the Armed Forces Champion for the council, has cited health reasons for his decision to resign from the role.
His resignation comes at a peculiar time as it will force the borough council to hold a by-election in December, while the main elections are scheduled to be held in May 2023.
Had he resigned just a few days later, a six-month period before the main elections would have set it and the council could have avoided the by-election.
Although an official announcement has not come, it is believed that the by-election will be held on Thursday, December 15.
