ANDOVER residents have been left shocked following an accident that has left a woman fighting for her life.

At around 10.51am on Thursday, November 10, a woman was struck by a reversing ambulance.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Those who witnessed the incident said that it left them shocked and worried for the woman.

One passer-by, who did not want to be named, said she saw the incident, with the ambulance reversing and hitting the pedestrian.

She said: “They hit her and went over her. People were shouting, but she was already underneath. She was screaming when it went over her and then she went quiet.

“The police arrived and started to close the road and they were asking people to get out of the way.

"It was pretty bad. Everyone was pretty shocked. The police have put barriers up to seal the street.

“It didn’t look good.”

Another witness said: “A woman was hit by an ambulance when it was reversing near the Halifax shop.

“I think the ambulance driver didn’t see her and she was hit by the bumper.”

A shopkeeper near the site said she was attending to customers when she heard a noise outside.

She said: "I looked outside and saw a man screaming and banging on the side of the ambulance and say there’s a person gone underneath.

"Everyone ran to the scene and there was another ambulance that arrived here.

"The paramedics were trying to give her CPR.

"They were here for good three-quarters of an hour and then she was taken to hospital.

"I hope she is well."

An investigating officer at the scene of the accident said: “Someone has been run over.

“Hopefully she will be alright.

“We can’t say more at this moment.

“We are currently taking some evidence.”
