A BY-ELECTION will be held in Andover on December 15 to elect a new member to Test Valley Borough Council.

The election was announced following the resignation of Cllr Nick Matthews on November 2.

With nominations closed on November 18, it will be a two-way battle for the seat. 

For Conservatives, Andover Women in Business president Katie Brooks is contesting.

Andover town councillor Jason Sangster, who recently joined the Liberal Democrats after being elected as independent, is also contesting.

In order to vote in these elections, you need to be registered on the Register of Electors and you must be a resident in the Andover Romans Ward on the date of the election; a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of a member state of the European Union; and 18 years old or over.

If you are an eligible elector and you are already on the Register of Electors in Andover Romans, you do not need to re-register for these elections.

The deadline for applying to register for voting in this election is Tuesday, November 29.

If you are unable to get to your polling station on December 15, there are different options available to you in order for you to cast your vote:

By post: if you apply to vote by post before the deadline of Wednesday, November 30, your postal vote will be dispatched around Monday 5 December 2022. 

By Proxy: the deadline to apply to vote by proxy at these elections is 5pm on Wednesday, December 7.
