AN ANDOVER primary school continues to be graded 'good' by Ofsted.

Ofsted recognised that Appleshaw St Peter CofE Primary School is a happy place for pupils, where they feel safe.

Following Ofsted's visit in October, its report concluded that most pupils at the school become confident and fluent readers by the time they leave and children in the early years settle into their phonics lessons well.

Headteacher Ian Hickman said: "We are delighted with our Ofsted inspection report. This ungraded inspection confirmed that we remain a good school and the outcome is a testament to the hard work of all our staff at Appleshaw St Peter's and across the Skylark Federation.

"We look forward to building on the positives and working hard on our areas for development to further improve provision at both schools in the Federation."

Ofsted inspectors also recognised that leaders provide a well-sequenced curriculum, where subject leaders help teachers to deliver interesting and engaging lessons.

The inspectors were particularly impressed by the hard work leaders put in to make sure that disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND take part in activities outside of the curriculum. The school has received the Association for Physical Education Quality Mark that recognises its commitment to sport across the school.
