Andover’s buzzing outdoor market will be celebrating its one-year anniversary next Sunday.

Second Sundays, which was developed by HemingwayDesign on behalf of Test Valley Borough Council, launched in June 2022 to support emerging and established independent producers, designers and makers and to showcase the region’s best local talent.

Over the past year, the event has welcomed 73 different traders selling all types of products from handmade jewellery and original art to locally distilled gin and plants. Many of these businesses have been start-up companies looking to introduce their products and meet new customers in the heart of Andover.

In addition to the traders, Second Sundays has provided a space for top-quality street food sellers and visitors have been able to try out 21 free workshops from hula hoop classes to willow weaving.

Since it launched, the monthly market has provided freelance employment opportunities for 10 local artists to run creative activities for all ages to enjoy.

The upcoming event on Sunday, June 11, 10am to 3pm, will be a celebration of the continued growth of the popular Andover market. This month will see two new workshops taking place with the chance for families to try out typewriter art and klecksography, the art of making colourful images from ink blots.

Traders will be selling a range of goods such as locally made cider and freshly baked sweet treats, as well as colourful art and fragrant handmade soap.

Alongside the trader stalls, the market’s vinyl DJ will be filling the High Street with a mix of reggae, hip hop and soul. Local magician David Major will also be roaming the event to dazzle and delight visitors with his astonishing street magic and the first few visitors will be in for a special treat with the chance to snap up an original Second Sundays shopper bag for free, which they can fill with artisan goods throughout the day.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Cllr Phil North, said: “Second Sundays has been a fantastic addition to Andover’s events programme. It brings something new and totally different to the town and celebrates all of the talented artists and businesses that we have on our doorstep.

“The market has seen a lot of people from the community come together and enjoy spending time in the town centre each month. I’m looking forward to seeing this event continue to grow.”

Second Sundays will take place on Sunday, June 11, 10am to 3pm, Andover High Street.
