A TEENAGE boy has suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a bus near a school in Tidworth.

The 13-year-old boy has been taken to Southampton hospital following the incident that happened at 8.35am near the Wellington Academy in Tidworth.

Emergency services including air ambulance and police attended the scene.

Police are remaining at the scene, while an accident investigation unit examines the crash circumstances.

Ludgershall Road is currently closed at the junction with Windmill Drive.

In their first update, a police spokesperson said: "A teenage boy has been taken to hospital following a collision in Ludgershall Road, Tidworth, this morning.

"Emergency services were called shortly after 8.35am following a report that a 13-year-old boy had been hit by a bus. The boy has been taken to Southampton Hospital with serious injuries.

"Ludgershall Road is currently closed at the junction with Windmill Drive while enquiries are carried out. Anyone who witnessed the collision should call 101 and quote log number 63 of today."

Later, police confirmed that the boy was in fact hit by a car.

A second police statement said: "Emergency services were called to Ludgershall Road at 8.36am following a report that a car had collided with a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian – a 13-year-old local boy – sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southampton Hospital. His family are aware and are with him at this time.

"The driver of the car – a Hyundai I10 – was not injured.

"The road remains closed while collision investigators are at the scene and will remain place for the duration of the school day. Please seek alternative routes.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have dash cam footage should call the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597."

Update: A previous version of this article said the boy was hit by a bus. This was because police initially said the crash involved a bus. However, police later confirmed that he was hit by a car.
