After a military career is over, life can be tough, for a veteran and their family.

You lose your home, way of life, income, and a support network that’s like a family.

Imagine all that, while trying to be there for a partner who’s in pain and suffering from mental trauma.

Andover Advertiser:

Many veterans are in torment from sights they’ve seen and dangers they’ve faced. Often their instinct is to avoid telling those closest to them what they’re going through.

For their children, that can be scary and confusing. The very people there to protect them seem distant and absorbed by their struggles.

And their young lives have been turned upside down too. Changing schools. Missing friends.

At this time of great stress and upheaval, families often don’t know where to turn.

But at Help for Heroes, we understand. We can help.

Amy is one of our family case managers. She works closely with the families of veterans, ensuring they receive all the support they need.

She said: “It’s the family who hold a veteran up and care for them every day. Families feel the effects of the difficulties their loved one is facing.

“We understand and want to ensure they have all the right support in place so they’re feeling safe and secure.

“We consider all aspects of a person’s life, that might be their mental or physical health, finances, housing, finding support for children or young people. And we help find ways to strengthen the family so they can best care for one another through what can be a challenging and overwhelming time.”
