PLANS are progressing for an award-winning fish and chips business to open a new takeaway in Andover.

Harlees will replace the now closed Vets 4 Pets in Weyhill Road, after plans were approved by Test Valley Borough Council in June 2022.

Now, Harlees has lodged an application with the borough council to erect new signage at the store.

In an email to the council, Harlees agent said: “The new signage is constructed like for like and internally illuminated.”

It has been reported that the new takeaway will welcome its first customers on Tuesday, July 4 – it had previously planned to open this month.

Earlier this year, Harlees picked up the Best Multiple Operator at the National Fish and Chip Awards. It received praise for its high standards at its branches across the South Wes

Richard Long from Harlees previously said: “We are really excited to be opening in Andover and bringing our award-winning fish and chips to the town. We have found a fantastic site with lots of parking and enough space to offer a casual dining experience, allowing our customers to enjoy quality fish and chips as fresh as possible. We aim to be open in May 2023.”

The takeaway in Andover will be Harlees' ninth location and the first in Hampshire.

The business was founded in Dorset in 1997 and the family-owned business is run by Richard and Lynda Long and their daughter Kaylee Herbert.
