THE Old Bell and Crown in Hatherden has received a food hygiene rating of five.

The Test Valley country pub, which was recently chosen to be Andover Advertiser's 'Pub of the Month' for July, was inspected on Thursday, July 13, and received the 'very good' grading after meeting all necessary requirements.

The assessment considers the hygienic handling of food, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

All of which, the Old Bell and Crown was rated 'good' by inspectors.

Landlady Lyndsay Kitson took over on June 6.

Speaking to the Advertiser previously, she said: "We've kept the same team but we want to try new things too, put my own, and our chef's own stamp on things like new specials and themed nights.

"We are very much your traditional pub, we do a cracking Sunday roast, and serve classic pub food.

"We try to use suppliers as local as we can, particularly with meat like lamb, sometimes we do have to use suppliers from further afield."
