PUPILS put their skills to the test in a baking competition.

The Wellington Academy welcomed schools from Ascend Learning Trust (ALT) for their very own bake off.

With stakes high and their aprons on, pupils from Years 6 and 7 battled it out in the kitchen with the hopes of being the ‘Star Baker’.

Each school held their own internal competitions in a bid to win a visit to The Wellington Academy to show off their baking skills.

Mrs Osben created the school's very own ALT bake off competition, with it being the first of many to come.

The event started in the schools, where all students in Year 6 or Year 7 submit their own designs to their food teacher.

The tough competition saw pupils create tasty and well-presented food.

Each pupil recreated their initial design to start the competition off and they were given a secret score from a panel of judges.

Mrs Osben then threw in her very own secretive challenge, asking the students to create their own fruit sponge roll cake.

The children went above and beyond making their cakes not only delicious but also very well presented.

With the Wellington Academy's very own chef coming in to give the final scoring, the competition was very close all students had done an amazing job.

Lawn Manor Academy's Tyler and Jahvaya took home first and second place with the Wellington Academy's very own Finley claiming third.

Each pupil received their own spoon, certificate and set of personalised bake-off stickers.

Tyler got a star baker branded apron, spoon and stickers to celebrate his win.

Mrs Osben, subject lead for technology and visual arts, said: “It is great to see all of the students from the trust schools come together to celebrate doing something they enjoy.

"For us and our students, it is a great chance to create a relationship amongst schools and have fun doing so. All of the children did an amazing job."

Picking a winner for the 'Star Baker' award was an "extremely close call", she said.

"Due to it being so much fun for staff and students we have already been in discussions to carry on the bake off with each school taking it in turns to host," Mrs Osben added.
