At last! It looks as though Hampshire and the Isle of Wight might get a taste of summer soon.

But how long it will last is another weather story and here’s the reasons for my thoughts on the meteorological scenario during the week ahead.

I anticipate that high pressure will build across much of northwest Europe including the British Isles for a time during the next few days but this system will be under attack from a North Atlantic depression trying to reach our shores, and if it succeeds, as I suspect it will, this will introduce less settled weather yet again albeit probably only in the short-term.

Now, putting more details on how all this will impact our weather here across Hampshire and the Island, I think we can expect some more cheerful and warmer conditions this side of the weekend with decent bright or sunny spells at times.

However, during the weekend, some showery weather is possible and this situation is likely to continue into early next week. Thereafter, there are signs a more prolonged spell of dry and very warm or even hot weather might well establish itself over southern England and the Midlands, so keep your fingers crossed if you love the heat. But a word of warning, if this does materialise it could well spark a few thunderstorms.

Daily maximum and minimum temperatures below the August average at first, but I am hopeful that with the prospects of better weather to come, temperatures will recover.

Overnight mist and fog patches are possible during the forecast period.
