Our weather remains stuck in a rut as the British meteorological summer draws to a close.

Much of the UK has in general experienced unseasonal conditions during the last three months with no prolonged heatwaves. But will this all change as we enter September and the start of another meteorological season?

Currently, the notorious jet stream that is responsible for controlling what weather Mother Nature throws at us, is dipping and diving much further south than usual for the time of year.

At the time of preparing this week’s column, the jet stream is sitting just west of the UK and Ireland and various hi-tech computer weather pressure pattern models indicate that this driver in our weather is unlikely to go far in the coming days.

With this in mind, I am predicting another mixed bag of weather for Hampshire during the foreseeable future as a more mobile westerly flow drops anchor over this part of Britain.

Putting a little more detail on what meteorological conditions we can expect to develop across the county, with a cooler spell soon getting underway, showers or perhaps more general rainfall is on the cards at various stages of the forecast period. And I would not rule out the possibility of a few rumbles of thunder in some precipitation.

Between any wet weather, we should see some decent dry and bright periods in the mix.

Turning to temperature profiles, daily maximums are set to fall somewhat to what we have experienced in recent days but overnight values should not stray far from average.
Overnight mist and fog patches are likely during the forecast period.
