BASINGSTOKE Gazette and Andover Advertiser reporter Kiran Sajan has been revealed as a finalist for the Regional Journalist of the Year award at the Asian Media Awards.
Kiran joined Newsquest in December 2020 as the papers’ community content editor but has since progressed to senior reporter.
Kiran said: “I am incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for this award.
“It's been a journey since I moved from India to the UK, and it wasn’t easy. But I now feel very proud to represent this news organisation.
"I would like to thank my previous and current editors and colleagues for making me feel at home and for their support and guidance throughout my career.”
Regional editor Kimberley Barber said: “I am so proud of Kiran from the Basingstoke Gazette and Andover Advertiser for making the shortlist in the Asian Media Awards.
“He works so hard and is such a brilliant person to work with. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him. He's committed, dedicated and hardworking. He approaches every story with balance and gives every story the attention it deserves.”
The Asian Media Awards 2023 will take place on Friday, October 27 at Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
The 2023 ceremony will be the ninth celebration to take place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate and will honour a total of 25 categories of which there will be six special awards.
A spokesperson for the awards said: “Each year we are taken aback by the quality of the entries and the shortlisting process this year was more difficult than ever.
“We would like to thank everyone who submitted their work and also our panel who help to recommend stand-out projects throughout the year.
“There are again finalists in a wide range of categories showcasing work that reaches worldwide and local audiences and tackles sensitive and/or controversial issues. This despite the distinct challenges they may face.
“The creative and live event industries continue to innovate and the awards have been keen support their efforts through the presentation of a new award.”
