ARTISTS are wanted to create public art across Test Valley, under a new initiative by the borough council.

Test Valley Borough Council is looking to commission artists for a number of public art opportunities coming up across the borough.

The first of these opportunities is a bespoke public art trail through an area of open space at the new community development of Broadleaf Park, in Rownhams. The trail would consist of a number of small-scale works that lead people from the urban area of Broadleaf Park into the natural environment.

The council is looking for a lead artist for this project, as well as a mentee artist. The mentee should be someone from the area looking to develop their skills and experience and work alongside the lead artist in delivering the work.

The deadline to apply for lead artist is Friday, October 13 and Friday, October 17 for mentee.

The second opportunity is for a scheme for the new development of The Paddocks at the Picket Twenty Extension development in Andover.

The theme of the commission will be focused on archaeological discoveries, such as a probable prehistoric barrow cemetery within the centre of the site.

This project also has lead and mentee artist opportunities, with deadlines of Wednesday, November 1 and Friday, November 10 respectively.

Community, leisure and tourism portfolio holder, Cllr Terese Swain, said: “These are brilliant opportunities for artists looking for a new project in Test Valley. TVBC would particularly love for someone in the borough to take on one of the mentee roles as this is a great chance for some to gain valuable experience working on a public art project. I would encourage anyone interested to apply.”
