ANDOVER Town Council has proposed to take action to remove scaffolding that has been blighting the high street for 16 months.

This comes as numerous councillors and residents have expressed concerns about the length of time that the scaffolding has been up.

The scaffolding in High Street was erected in June 2022 in front of Ark Hair Design and Ladbrokes. Over a year on, it is still up with no confirmation of when the works to the face of the building will be completed.

Now, Andover Town Council has brought forward the matter to be discussed at its next meeting on Wednesday, November 22.

Cllr Heather Neate said at a meeting on Wednesday, October 18: "I do wonder if now is the time for us as a council to be writing to find out or even offer assistance if we need to."

Gerald Kingsley has been in the town for nine years, and running Ark Hair Design in High Street for the past five years.

Gerald previously said: "It looks like the store isn’t open, and people walking past looking to get a haircut are going elsewhere. A lot of my business is from people popping in for a cut, and as a result, I’m the one losing customers.”

In July, children were spotted climbing the scaffolding. A resident in the town photographed a number of children who had climbed the scaffold on July 25.

They could be seen climbing up the scaffold and along the roof of Hays Travel, and onto the roof of the neighbouring Poundland store.

Ladbrokes, which owns the building, has been contacted for comment but it has yet to respond.
