Underaged cadets in Andover were able to purchase vapes in an operation carried out by the Andover Neighbourhood Policing Team.

It is illegal to sell e-cigarettes to children - only people over the age of 18 can buy the products under UK law.

In a facebook post made by Test Valley Cops, police said: "It has been brought to our attention that young people have been able to purchase vapes and alcohol illegally from shops around Andover town centre.

"In order to ensure their safety and wellbeing it is vital that we ensure that they do not have access to these items."

Police officers, with the help of Police Cadets, then carried out test purchases in the Andover Town Centre.

During the operation, underaged cadets were able to purchase vapes and alcohol despite being under the age of 18.

Hampshire Police have identified two businesses with ‘areas to work on’ after the operation, and they have been ‘dealt with accordingly’.

This comes just one week after the Advertiser investigated Andover vape shops and their compliance with Challenge 25 regulations.

The Advertiser has contacted Hampshire Police for a comment.
