PLANS for four new homes on a property in Picket Piece have come under criticism from council, raising concerns about traffic.

A planning application for the erection of four semi-detached dwellings was discussed by Andover Town Council's planning committee on Tuesday, December 2.

The application is after a prior planning application was refused on February 28, 2020, for the creation of six dwellings and the demolition of the existing dwelling at Greenacre, Walworth Road, Picket Piece.

The application had previously been refused on the basis that the proposal was too cramped, and did not provide adequate visitor parking. The scheme was also refused due to a lack of mitigation for nutrient neutrality.

Under the new plans, four new dwellings will be built and the existing bungalow will be retained.

The new homes will be two pairs of semi-detached dwellings, each with a combination of two and three bedrooms.

During the meeting, Cllr Heather Neate said: "They did a traffic safety assessment which I found was rather out of date. The area has changed significantly in recent years and sees a lot more drivers on the road and in the village.

"Residents feel strongly about this and I feel we should take note of all the other developments seen along Walworth Road.

"I think they really ought to look again at the traffic on this. We have ongoing problems with Walworth Road. There are no footpaths, it's a winding road and you haven't got clear sight, and every time you put more access on Walworth Road, it's going to exacerbate the problem."

Councillors objected to the plans citing concerns regarding safety of drivers and pedestrians and more information needed on nitrate neutrality.
