A SURVEY has been launched to give residents the chance to have their say on town council plans to buy a piece of land.

Andover Town Council is progressing with a proposal to buy land north of Ox Drove, part of the Locksbridge Park development, in Picket Piece.

The authority has now launched a survey to give people the chance to give their opinion on the idea, along with what they would like to see on the green space.

At a council meeting on Wednesday, February 21, Cllr Heather Neate gave members an update.

Cllr Neate said: "We held the two open days, one just behind the town hall here and one in Picket Piece's village hall. We had 59 visitors at the town centre and 39 at Picket Piece. My thanks go to councillors Farren, Reynolds, Meyer and Bird who helped out during the session in the town centre.

"We've asked the BID and Unity if they will help out spreading the word with the consultation running until March 14. Just a reminder from me to all councillors to keep spreading the word and if you haven't already, please complete the questionnaire."

Cllr Neate continued: "We are excited that the survey is up and running. Despite being thrilled with the response we have received so far, we would encourage every Andover resident to take part and make their voices heard.

"It will be your community asset and we want to make sure we get it right."

As previously reported, the land was initially reserved for a junior sports pitch, but this is no longer required, with Andover Town Council now proposing to purchase it to ensure it remains a community asset.

Wates Developments and David Wilson Homes Southern, which own the land, sought planning permission for 16 dwellings, which was approved by Test Valley Borough Council in July, although no building work has started yet.

The proposal to buy the land was initially discussed during a full council meeting on Wednesday, November 22.
