AN ISSUE affecting the booking system for users of Basingstoke’s tip is impacting all of the county’s waste and recycling centres, it can be revealed.

As previously reported by the Advertiser's sister paper, the Basingstoke Gazette, users of the Basingstoke tip, in Wade Road, had reported problems with booking same-day time slots to visit.

Visitors to the tip must book an appointment beforehand. However, some of the same-day bookings to the tip have not been showing up on the system, resulting in customers being turned away, despite having a booking.

Hampshire County Council apologised for the inconvenience but has since confirmed that the issue is affecting its booking system for all 26 Hampshire Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC), including in Andover, Alton, Winchester, Hartley Wintney and Romsey.

A council spokesperson said: “Appointments for all of our household waste and recycling centres are made via the same booking system, which means the intermittent issue can present itself at any site.

“The centre at Basingstoke is our busiest with the highest number of same day bookings which is why the issue appears more pronounced there.”

It said the number of reported incidents was ‘relatively small’ with 15 vehicles not showing up on the system during the previous 14-day period.

“Work continues to resolve the issue. In the meantime, customers are advised to bring their confirmatory email with them when attending their local HWRC to help with this process,” the council said.

The council has been asked how long it has been aware of the problem.
