BARCLAYS customers will be able to access some banking services from a bank on wheels after the company’s permanent branch in Andover closed.

The branch in High Street shut on Friday, May 17, but customers will still be able to access a range of services from a special Barclays van which will set up in the town each Monday in June.

Staff will be able to help people with managing their finances, setting up power of attorney, notifying the bank of a bereavement, improving fraud and scam protecting and improving digital confidence.

The van was outside The White Hart pub, in Bridge Street, on Monday, May 20, but will be located outside the Guildhall each Monday in June from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

A post on Barclays UK Community Social said: “Andover branch have relocated and we are still here to help you. We hope to move to our new permanent Barclays Local soon but in the meantime Sarah and a colleague will be on the van today 20th May and every Monday in June.”

Following the closure of the branch, the banking giant has plans to open a Barclays Local, a site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support as they would in a branch.

Barclays Local is a flexible community presence in places such as town halls and libraries, mobile vans and banking pods.

Customers can access a range of in-person support such as help with digital banking, financial reviews, balance checks transfers and bill payments.

A Barclays spokesperson previously said: “As visits to branches continue to fall, with the majority of people preferring to bank online, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers. This is reflected at Andover branch where we are delivering new ways to support our customers and the community with options for those who need in-person services.”

The closure of the main branch means Barclays users in Andover will now depend on Barclays app, telephone banking, online banking and video banking, and the Barclays Local site for cashless transactions.

Alternatively, they can do cash transaction at any Post Office with the closest located at 31 High Street, Andover.
