POLICE are investigating after it was reported that rat poison was being spread on fields in Andover.

A post on an Andover Facebook group on Friday, June 7 said that a man had been seen by members of the public throwing rat poison down over the fields on Saxon Field, Andover.

The post continued to say that the man was apprehended by members of the public, and the bag of poison was taken from him prior to police being notified, although this has not been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Officers are investigating following a report of rat poison being put in fields on Saxon Field, Andover.

"It has been reported that a man was seen putting the poison down at around 3.30pm on Friday, 7 June.

"The matter is under investigation."
