TWO drivers crashed into a tree that fell onto the A303 in the early hours of Sunday morning as Storm Darragh hit the area.

One of the drivers was taken to Salisbury District Hospital to be treated for minor injuries after the collision, which took place shortly after 3am on December 8.

Police stopped traffic in both directions near Winterbourne Stoke until almost 5am while the tree was removed from the carriageway.

Firefighters from Wilton and Tisbury were also in attendance.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash on the A303, Winterbourne Stoke, just after 3am on Sunday (08/12).

“Two drivers reportedly crashed into a tree which had fallen onto the carriageway.

“One of the drivers sustained minor injuries and was transported to Salisbury District Hospital for treatment.

“Both lanes were blocked and the road was temporarily closed to allow for the tree to be removed.”

A spokesperson for Wilton Fire Station said: “A car was struck by a tree while travelling eastbound.

“One of the occupants received medical care from the ambulance service before being able to be walked out of the vehicle and transferred to hospital.

“The carriageway was cleared with the help of Tisbury Fire Station who were also in attendance.”
