Sarah Jacobs, the marketing manager at Age Concern Hampshire, is dedicated to raising awareness and improving support for older people across Hampshire.

As we celebrate 40 years of supporting older people in Hampshire, I want to share why the work we do at Age Concern Hampshire matters now more than ever.

Since 1985, we have been committed to helping people age well and live well, offering a range of services that promote health, wellbeing and independence.

Our Care and Wellbeing Centres are at the heart of this mission.

They provide a warm and welcoming space where older people can enjoy nutritious meals, take part in engaging activities, and build meaningful connections in a supportive environment.

We support people with a wide range of needs, including those living with dementia, through tailored activities and compassionate care.

Our day care services also offer families and carers much-needed respite and reassurance, helping to ease the pressures of caring for a loved one.

Loneliness and isolation remain some of the greatest challenges faced by older people, particularly those living alone.

Staying socially connected and physically active plays a vital role in maintaining wellbeing as we age.

Our Care and Wellbeing Centres, Social Groups and Wellbeing Services help address this by creating inclusive spaces that encourage friendship, connection and a sense of community.

We also recognise that every person’s experience of ageing is unique.

That is why our services are designed to be flexible and responsive to individual needs, whether someone requires regular support or simply a welcoming place to connect with others.

Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide a range of care, support and services that make a real difference in people’s lives.

This year, as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help sustain our Social Groups.

These groups offer essential companionship, emotional support and opportunities for gentle physical activity in a friendly and relaxed setting.

Sadly, with previous funding coming to an end, we now face the risk of losing these lifelines.

Rather than introduce participation fees, which many people would struggle to afford, we are appealing to the public for support.

Every contribution helps us continue this vital work.
